Doom 2 and Duke (and a bit of Hexen) were it for me in the 3d shooter genre. Quake and what followed - meh. Duke was particularly cool because of all the black humor as well as the possibility of editing script files for hilarious effects.

same two games for me…lotta hours beating those…but Duke had all that incidental stuff, pool balls rolling around, and strippers etc…big fun
