re: #161 Patricia Kayden

I recall Obama visiting Europe (speaking in front of thousands in Germany) in 2008, prior to his election. At that time, he was a rock star and the trip was a resounding success.
What will Romney get out of this trip? He has no charisma and seems to despise Europe/Europeans (except those who can donate to his campaign, I guess). This is not going well so far.

I was thinking back on Obama’s European campaign visit today too. Winguts made a big deal out of Obama “gaffes” at the time. Remember when the Obama’s insulted the queen by touching her or something? Also Obama started a speech when ceremonial music was still playing? Lots of minor things but wingnuts still made a big deal out them. Also wingnuts used it to frame Obama as a European elitist, aloof, apologizing for America and a globalist. Memes they still stick to today. None of it really mattered in November. Probably the same thing here.
Much like Fox news blew the whole concept of fact checking the media by being over the top inaccurate, we might be seeing the same thing with gaffes. The noise machine is constantly outraging about something new almost every single day. Most of it is unimportant, even the pundits tune it out after a while. Will we see a “Dean Scream” or Dukakis tank helmet photo op? Maybe, but according to the noise machine we see it several times daily. After flinging so much poo at the wall it doesn’t matter if some sticks, it just becomes part of the scenery.
