He does have leverage because his enthusiastic endorsement could motivate some of his supporters who might otherwise stay home to pull the lever for Hillary. He doesn’t have enough leverage to dictate the platform Hillary will run on, of course.

And there’s the key word right there. The more enthusiastic the endorsement, the greater the blowback is going to be for him. A guy who’s spent months stopping just short of accusing the woman of being a Republican is going to suddenly decide he’s willing to throw his support behind her rather than running an indie bid against her?
