Today’s fascist movement is a reaction to years of stable democratic rule. Whereas yesterday’s was a reaction to instability following WWI.

That at least made sense; the abattoir that was WWI, the Bolshevik Revolution and aborted Communist revolutions in parts of Europe, the redrawing of national borders on a scale unseen since the Thirty Years War, the utter collapse of four long-standing empires…..that provides an obvious context for the rise of Fascism in the interwar period.

Today? Not so much.
