Cotdammit, those last couple of comments I made about turnout in Wisconsin sent me down a rabbit hole comparing turnout in 2012 and 2016. Apparently, turnout was slightly up in 2016 (less than 1%, in terms of percentage of registered voters). In terms of real votes cast: 133.3m votes were cast in 2016, compared to 128.1m in 2012. But this is where it gets interesting - despite 5.2m more votes cast in 2016, Clinton actually slightly underperformed Obama’s total in 2012 (he had 62,000 more votes). Trump got just over 2m more votes than Romney did. The remaining additional 3.2m votes were for Gary Johnson.

I have no idea what to make of any of that.
