Heh. That reminds me of a section in Gavin de Becker’s book “The Gift of Fear” - he described how some people wait to see how their dog reacts to a stranger before deciding whether said stranger is trustworthy/good or not. De Becker says that if the dog reacts negatively, it’s not because they’re picking up on the stranger’s bad character - they’re actually reacting to distress cues from their owners, and then their protective instincts kick in.
