My first two cents since about 8 months ago:
A. The neo-con “republicans” in congress don’t care about the “principles” of deficit reduction or de-socialization, this is a move to hurt people and blame it on the democrats.

B. Where in the constitution does it say whatsoever that it’s the governments responsibility to take care of people? I don’t support Obama but his often misconstrued remark about the constitution was exactly correct: it is a charter of negative liberties. It is not a contract of duties and services the government will provide.

I’m not arguing that this was a smart or responsible or even a good thing to cut benefits, but to say it’s the governments duty to provide them is a dishonest and downright false representation.

I don’t think that everything HAS to be written directly in the Constitution for it to be provided for or even be a good idea. In fact, many things are not.

Democrats are more socially conscious. They support social programs. Republicans generally do not. Depending on how far Right you are, of course, most Republicans I know support public school, public roads, libraries and things of that nature, but are more iffy when it comes to welfare programs or in this case, helping the out-of-work stay afloat.

Who is saying that the Constitution provides for these social programs?
