For a really extreme example of private vs. government armament, see British Armed Forces and Gun politics in the United Kingdom. As every wingnut no doubt knows, the oppressed people of Britain are groaning under a monstrous tyranny they would instantly overthrow if they only had enough assault rifles and handguns. Hey, we saw it in that documentary about Richard III, it must be true. That dude Shakespeare should learn some better English, though. I could barely understand it.
