re: #85 FormerDirtDart šš No Captānš·Trips
Trump, the Navy, and Sec. Def Esper (and all the temps/actings at the top of the chain of command, are fucked.
This captain saw the chain of command absolutely ignore the health, safety, and welfare of our servicemembers and did what had to be done. He took one for the team, and the team - the Navy servicemembers responded out of love and appreciation.
Thatās leadership. Thatās how to command respect. The captainās career may be ended doing the right thing, all while Trumpists are denying and minimizing the crisis.
All the while, Trumpās policies are doing actual damage to our military and our readiness is falling off a cliff - having 2 carriers out of commission due to the outbreak is a huge deal.
We have only a couple deployed at any one time. 11 total including the Ford (CVs, not counting the amphibious strike groups with LHAs). We have essentially 20% of the fleet carriers sidelined thanks to covid19.
How did this happen? Where were the protocols for shore leave cancellations? Quarantines prior to boarding for extended cruises, etc. Itās as though everyone ignored the threat across the Navy.
And all of this starts with Trump.
