Shorter: it ain’t the “economic insecurity.” It’s the psychological conditions of ignorance & short-term thinking that push people towards joining militias.

lemme repeat again for all you Hillbilly Elegists out there: I grew up in a midwestern industrial town during the Golden Age of the White Working Man, back when a fellow just had to finish High School, get on at a mill or factory, rack up some seniority, and he could afford a (modest) house and a (mid-sized) car, and still keep his wife at home to raise the kids, whom he could put through (state) college on his wages.

And those guys were every bit as racist as you see today…
