The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell,

The woman on the side after being scorned sends anonymous threatening e-mails to the mans wife. She in turn gets scared and goes to FBI. Boom done. They are just trying to keep her name out of it because it really doesn’t matter who she was as far as the fallout from this. At least not unless Broadwell gets formally charged with something.
