I don’t know what’s going on but I doubt that AJ wants Current TV’s market but their infrastructure. AJ isn’t “lefty” and its AJ English format isn’t even close to Current TV’s format. They said they want to compete with CNN.

I don’t know if Al JAz intentionally markets towards lefty audiences but that’s pretty much the demographic that they get. I’ll tune in for live coverage of event in the Arabic speaking world since they often the only ones with reporters on the scene but the only places I see high praise for the network in lefty blogs. It could be interesting to see what they do. Over the previous decades major western news org have cut way back on their international offices so they might have a niche market but I still think it’ll be a tough sell for American audiences who aren’t that interested in international affairs. They might do better in Europe.
