… there’s no going back. I know. But I can’t afford biz class now, so it’s just a pipe dream.

One time, many years ago, one of my flights somewhere was overbooked. All the coach seats were filled.

“Sir, would you mind taking one of our first class seats at no extra charge?” the gate attendant asked me.
“No, I wouldn’t mind at all,” I replied, trying to be nonchalant.

It was the most comfortable three-hour flight in my lifetime — so far.

The best flight ever in my life was when I moved to NYC from LA. I had about 9 pieces of luggage, I was anticipating a hellacious time at baggage claim and the expense of a porter to help me get it all to a cab…

But the flight was overbooked. Would I be willing to change my ticket from coach-to-JFK and instead fly first class to Newark, and BTW they’d of course deliver all my checked bags to me at no extra charge….

Awesome. Shrimp cocktail and steak for my meal, could take the bus into town, and everything showed up at my door the next morning.
