I’m guessing there might have been some hold over from Obama’s cabinet, or cabinet members running new departments. Baker went from Treasury to State (with some time off between) when HW Bush succeeded Reagan. Nicholas Brady was Reagan’s last appointment at Treasury and he stayed on through the Bush Administration. Also looks like Reagan’s last AG stayed on for a while too.

So I suspect there would have been something similar if Clinton would have won. And maybe this would be about the time that you’d see those holdovers looking to move on.

But it’s an entirely different thing to see so many cabinet members (and White House staff) serving for so short a time in the early days of an administration. Usually you see people serving short term near the end of an administration as people are moving on.

Agreed. I do wonder about a hypothetical Sanders cabinet. It’s one reason tbh I wasn’t sold.
