I remember attending a Bar Mitzvah many years ago; one of the speakers was a brother-in-law of mine; he was a CPA and the CFO of a large Chicago-based corporation; and he made the same error in speaking. It is so grating that too many people somehow think “I” sounds educated, no matter what the syntax.

we are taught that it is more polite but still do not grasp the difference between subject and object.
