Ha! That’s brilliant. But yeah I just hate those stupid memes where there’s a picture of Wayne side by side with a Millennial and those some dumb caption like “They don’t make men like this anymore.” My own grandfather didn’t serve in WWII(he was 4F due to an injury) so I don’t think Wayne was a “pussy” or anything like that for not serving in WWII but he wasn’t a hero and he was certainly a bigot. I like some of his movies but tehre are others from that era that I prefer much more and some of them like Jimmy Stewart actually were heroes.

I’ll be honest: I like some John Wayne *movies*, but as a person, Wayne was a bigot and a POS. I prefer some of his later movies, such as The Quiet Man (ahh, Maureen O’Hara…) and Hellfighters (I love it just as much for Jim Hutton and Katharine Ross [in her prime, as she was in this movie, I would have let her do bad things to me] as for Wayne; the pro-American jingoism towards the end during the Venezuela scenes wasn’t as bad as in The Green Berets, but it was there), as he started getting away from the Westerns that were his stock-in-trade earlier in his career.
