I’ve haven’t been on it in a long time, but for a good part of my lifetime the ongoing joke was always “I wonder when they are going to finish the Pennsylvania Turnpike?”

Maybe they need to start over so they can cover this century too!

They’re widening the pike to 3-lanes each way now in a lot of places - along with the necessary overpass replacement. My pet prediction is that they finish this - and the I-99 N/S corridor roughly about the time that fuel issues start hurting the trucking industry badly enough for the transportation models based on it to start going out of style.

PA for the most part just does not have highway friendly terrain and weather. The drivers are pretty bad, but simply not as aggressive as the NJ ones are. And I concur with the VA/DC/MD thing - I saw 65mph bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-95 there while there was 4” of snow on the ground and more falling heavily at the time. Terrifyingly stupid.
