Private schools, which can selectively accept or expel students, cannot begin to be compared to public school, which are mandated to accept everyone who applies and can only expel students who display dangerously disruptive or criminal behavior.

That’s something that I don’t get with the folk that live around here.

Rural areas are normally very big on public schooling: Long distances and low populations mean that rural areas are generally not a good place for a private school to make money.

The folk around here are no different: They are all strong supporters of our public schools. Yet they vote for a party that wants to gut public schooling in favour of private schools we don’t have.

It’s really an enigma to me. A tax credit or a voucher for private schooling (and there are good private schools - they aren’t all grifters though the model makes that simpler) doesn’t mean jack if there isn’t a private school within a hundred miles.
