Jim Wright’s latest essay at Stonekettle station is a real thought provoker. stonekettle.com

The thesis is simple enough to state: some kind of compromise between red America and blue America is necessary if we aren’t to end up with a cold civil war or being perpetually on the verge of a cold civil war.

That’s true enough, but I honestly don’t see how this is possible. Republicans have unilaterally radicalized themselves to an extreme degree, and the political reality is that the Democrats must respond in kind (at least in part, although the Democrats have nothing like Fox News or Hate Radio and shouldn’t do that shit) or just get rolled over.

As ever, one side or the other can ensure war, but peace requires both sides to cooperate.

I keep scratching my head trying to figure out what weird definition of “compromise” he’s trying to use. In my dictionary compromise is both sides giving up something to come to consensus. IMO such things as civil rights and women’s bodily autonomy are just not available for compromise. At that he does the MBF thing and goes “aha! see? I told you”. Then he uses as an example of his idea of compromise as working around those who will not play. That is not compromise, that is strategy.

What I do agree with is more effective messaging/communication on the Democratic side. Something we’ve discussed a lot here. But then we get into the weeds on the media as was so clearly demonstrated during the election. So. I dunno.
