Which implies that perhaps others do it for similar reasons even if they don’t recognize it as such.

I do tend to think that we would do well to have trial and term marriages recognized in law. Perhaps 1 year terms for a trial that can be converted to term or permanent later on? I can imagine a 5 year term marriage being fairly popular as well.
