Well, part of the problem is that the GOP base has shrunk dramatically, if you look at who is still willing to identify themselves as “Republican”. So while it isn’t true to say it of “everyone registered as Republican” (and no one here is, afaik) it definitely is true about the leadership and those still in that base. That’s why the current leadership is blowing those dogwhistles.

And it’s terrible. Not just for the sane and normal conservatives here, but just terrible strategy because these decisions aren’t going to increase the GOP demographics.

I’m still registered as a Republican.
