re: #173 Smith25’s Liberal Thighs

Hey, I resent, and resemble that remark./

In all seriousness, teachers and coaches like myself have to battle both sides of this idea. I take great pride in my abilities as a teacher(Advanced Placement American Government, Economics, Chemistry) and coach(Football-Defensive Coordinator, Track and Field- Hurdles Coach; yeah I’m tooting my on horn/). I have to battle the perception of others of coaches not doing their job, when there are many who do a great job. Yet I also have to battle the ones that do not do their teaching job correctly, as it reflects on us negatively.

My American History teacher was the assistant Basketball coach at my ol’ Catholic High School. He was great. My one buddy and I were pretty good at history and current events.

One day he sprung a quickie verbal test in class on fairly recent political/history and he’d ask his basketball stars and their hanger-on types questions and almost all the time they didn’t know the answer. He’d come to my buddy and I and we would know it. (He sort of knew we would). It was funny as we were considered goofs by the basketball jock types and I think he did it to send a message to them.

Basketball was god at our small Catholic High. We didn’t have a football team (not enough male bodies to waste and no budget for it/).

The team was so good because it was almost the same players from 5th grade up due to all the families keeping their kids in school all 12 grades. So, as far as team ball went, it was hard to beat us.

Won a few State Championships, made State a few times with no wins and usually a Regional championship every year in the small school class.
