I actually sort of understand Twitter’s dilemma with Trump’s ugly tweets. Like it or not (and I fucking hate it) this disgusting person is the president of the United States, and what he says is newsworthy. But it’s also what makes it so reckless and dangerous.

Trump is a goddamned agent of chaos, ripping apart every norm of behavior and turning everything he touches into shit.

In this case they could’ve easily bypassed that dilemma by deleting Jayda Fransen’s tweets, even better they could’ve permanently suspended her account. That way they’d have effectively condemned Trump by proxy without actually censoring him per se. Instead they decided to tacitly endorse racism and xenophobia and issue a cowardly milquetoast justification for refusing to enforce their own standards.
