Studies come out declaring that much of American society has no savings and would be deep in debt or even forced to declare bankruptcy if they ever had a major expense (medical emergency, major accident, home damage, etc).

Instead of suggesting that things like higher pay, universal health coverage, or guaranteed benefits would help many workers, the gatekeepers of modern capitalism declare the problem lies with the workers and how they’re not trying hard enough to lift themselves up by their own damned bootstraps.
