I’ll admit that I’ve always wanted to win the lotto and build a home in the fuselage of a C-54/DC-4 and fly the world while living in it :) So, yeah, I get that but OTOH, I can’t say I blame them. If you have the coin? Why not?
Lebombo (ZS-BMH) was the last DC-4 built ( 4 August 1947). It is still airworthy with the South African AIrways museum.
In 1962 it survived a mid-air collision with a South African military Harvard (T-6) trainer. It landed with a sizable part of the tail missing. None of the 51 passengers and crew were injured. The two crew in the T-6 bailed out and also survived.
