It doesn’t bug me in the least. The thing that stood out to me, was an article that stated the parents were having a “get together” down the street, and just happened to have a pipe, brass knuckles, and paint cans to beat a man to near death.

Well, they sound like assholes. I mean, they nearly beat a man to death. If they were at someone’s house, then having those handy doesn’t really seem that odd to me.

vI think the author played down the awfulness of the people administering the beating in reaction to the right wingnuts making hay out of a comment made at the scene.

Because they were having a get-together? You appear to be reading a lot into this.
