re: #179 wheat-dogg
A clever mastermind in the Oval Office would have treated McCabe with kid gloves, to win him over to the side of the White House or at least guarantee McCabe would remain neutral/silent, even after retirement. Instead, Trump and Sessions fire the guy just before retirement for completely petty and vindictive reasons as a form of punishment, thereby virtually guaranteeing a new enemy is created. Worse yet, they’ve now got the entire FBI pissed, even agents who would normally be neutral or even Republican leaning.
We should be grateful that Trump and his minions are so hopelessly inept at politics.
Either that, or simply thank him for his service and let him retire without fanfare. They already have a Dumpster fire to deal with over the Mueller investigation and Ms. Daniels’s lawsuit, plus various members of Trump’s team being tried or already convicted. Anything Mr. McCabe might have brought up could have been dealt with if it came up at all.
Instead, they’ve created a new problem if Mr. McCabe decides to sue for an unlawful firing (and he gets discovery on such things as recordings or paperwork related to that, including this alleged internal investigation we only have the administration’s word took place).
