Orson Scott Card used to be my idea of a socially conservative person who I respected. He’s a Democrat but still a Catholic who is conservative about some things.

But I think he went off the deep end with ODS. It was totally unexpected. I have trouble understanding why people do that. He’s hardly the only one.

He is such a smart person, but whatever emotion makes people fall for these obsessions makes them say stupid stupid things, even if they’re OSC.
