Yep, said it better than I could. And frankly I like having hate speech allowed because it shows how stupid some people are. If we just censored Ann Coulter and people like that, we wouldn’t be able to laugh at how stupid they were and frankly censoring gives them the martyr complex they crave. With liberal speech laws, they get to say stupid shit and look foolish making themselves out to be martyrs.

That has actually been my position for many years. However, the counter argument is getting stronger every day.

It is plausible that a democracy can become ungovernable if free speech is recklessly exploited for political agitprop on a large scale. This seems to be happening in the US.
