I can’t explain it but I think Wheat explains it pretty well. I really don’t like the more old school ones but the so called revisionist ones are great.

Shane and High Noon are early examples of “thoughtful” Westerns. And The Magnificent Seven was adapted from Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai.
