I am so very very glad that I am not in retail anymore.
The last 5-6 years have just well, not been good.

Roaming around the San Diego region one can find many stores - small ones, large ones - that have gone out of business these last few years. There’s certainly no shortage of available commercial real estate around here.

I do think the big-box retail chains have changed retail enough that we don’t see store owners as people anymore. The other day I bought a birthday gift for a family member, and got it at a specialty shop where the owner still sits behind the counter helping customers.
