Take a close look at the other houses.

You will notice peeling paint, wood falling off, and unkempt yards. This house simply looks beautiful and well kept.

Personally, I want fewer McMansions, and more modern Painted Ladies.

I’m not sure where you are seeing peeling paint and unkempt yards. This particular block seems to be mostly Victorian and early 20th century houses, although many of the houses in surrounding blocks are newer. It’s just that all the neighbors have painted their houses in pale, “tasteful” colors and this house is different. Neither the pale colors nor the multicolor versions are particularly authentic, but it’s only paint for heaven’s sake. And while the house in question is multicolored, the colors are not garish.
