Nobody understood what the TPP was, and Bernie and Trump sold the same reductionist image.

And I have to wonder why Obama didn’t do more to sell it to his own party, and allay progressive concerns (e.g. onerous US copyright laws extending to all the signing countries, no mention of climate change, and worst of all, the investor-state dispute mechanism, which would have allowed foreign corporations to sue governments for passing consumer/environmental protection laws that supposedly hurt their profits - that was a big reason Elizabeth Warren opposed it as well, IIRC)
