That makes sense. I wondered about redwoods the first time I saw them. They seemed to be in circles. I wondered if there had not been a “mother tree” long ago.
Redwood trees mostly grow up from shoots around a “mother tree” — if you see them in spring, you’ll see dozens of shoots growing out around the base of their trunks — so the circular pattern is common. (Their seeds are mostly infertile.)
