re: #184 Dopamine Fish
Tim Tebow had, if I recall correctly, a couple of flashy plays as a backup that had all the hardcore Christians salivating that maybe theyâd get Godâs Answer to Wokeism installed as a starter on a winning team. The problem with that: Just like in any sport, any old idiot can get lucky once or twice. As I recall, there was an ESPN interview with someone - maybe an old coach of his? - who basically said, âYeah, his mechanics suck. If you put him in as a starter, itâs not gonna go well.â The rest of the league saw that, along with the fact that heâd carry drama wherever he went (and especially if he was ever released from a team), and went, âNo thanks, we choose life.â
He took over for Kyle Orten in Denver about mid way through the year. Broncos proceeded to go on a run, win their division, and beat the Steelers in round 1 of the playoffs. A lot of it was in spite of Tebow, not because of them. They couldnât throw for anything, but between Tebow and the RBâs, they could run the ball well. They also had an excellent defense.
GM John Elway couldnât wait to get rid of Tebow, though, and immediately did so when Peyton Manning became available. Tebow was traded to the Jets (after Tebow declined a trade to his hometown Jaguars because that was too small of a market). The Jets promptly had Tebow bulk up to play FB/H-back, and he was basically never a QB again.
What this yahoo likely doesnât understand, was that Tebow was invited to camp with the Jaguars by his former coach at Florida, Urban Meyer. He was trying out as a TE. Not even his college coach thought Tebow could play QB anymore.
And of course, he is totally silent about Colin Kaepernick, who could 100% play better than a LOT of QBs on rosters today. Maybe not start, but could easily be a backup. No one will, of course, touch him.
