I think the best descriptor of the effect of Trump and Trumpism on America is “corrosive”. It reflects how it eats away at the whole fabric of America.

And corrosion is always hard to stop once it starts. Even after you get the conditions that allow it changed, the process already started continues until neutralized and the damage cut out and replaced.
