I would love to offer many of those people a home in this country. There’s plenty of rural areas as well as some major urban ones like Detroit that could use injection of population after having been hollowed out over that last several decades. Alas, two problems that could provide at least partial solutions for one another won’t because hairless chimpanzees.

There’s a town in Italy that did just that. Its wage-earning population had largely moved away, leaving many properties and businesses vacant. So the mayor of the town decided to invite hundreds of refugees to live there. At last report, it was working well, though ironically the refugees will eventually move on, too.
