As relatively sane GOPers like McCain exit, more are replaced by people much worse. That’s the problem with the GOP. There are few to if any at all forward thinkers in that party. Just a bunch of reactionaries who have no desire to compromise on anything and who are increasingly radical on the issues of the day. I remember when an anti-abortion without exceptions Republican was a rarity. Now it’s the norm.

They have 30% of the electorate nailed down no matter how far right they go. They are not about to give up on that.
