re: #192 Jay C
Quite true, but âpulling up the ladderâ is an American tradition of (only-slightly-less)as long standing as immigration itself. Reading a bit into the background of the first major attempt to restrict immigration into the US (1924): you see a lot of attitudes that the build-The-Wall Trumprrhoids echo to this day. âNativeâ* obsessions about cultural dilution were as active then as now - even if the influx of âpoor, illiterate, unskilledâ foreigners were indisputably âwhiteâ - by todayâs standards: that so many contemporary incomers arenât doesnât make the attitudes any better.
*WASPs of course, not American Indians.
The assholes have been using the same arguments since the 19th CenturyâŚ.and most of the time, they havenât even CHANGED THE WORDING. Theyâve just changed the targets from the Chinese and Japanese to other peoplesâŚbut theyâll get back to usâŚ
Think of something new, assholes.
