When the dreamer, Daniel Ramirez Medina, told ICE that he had DACA status, an agent responded: âIt doesnât matter, because you werenât born in this country.â ICE then confiscated his DACA work permit and locked him in detention far from his family.

Ramirez underwent two background checks to obtain and renew his DACA status. Neither turned up any indication of gang activity. To the contrary, Ramirez moved from CA to WA to *avoid* gangs.
Doesnât matter, ICE said. Weâre still going to deport you for being âgang-affiliated.ââ Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) May 17, 2018
A judge tore into ICE for lying, ordering the government to restore Ramirezâs DACA status and barring it from claiming that he was âgang-affiliated.â He slammed ICEâs case as
â˘âcompletely contradictoryâ
â˘based on âno evidenceâ
â˘âmost troublingâ
â˘âarbitrary and capriciousâ pic.twitter.com/8PXttDu53Dâ Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) May 17, 2018
The judge, a Bush appointee, also found that ICE had egregiously violated Ramirezâs right to due process.
