re: #153 fern01
It’s the replacement for “um” - which used to send me crazy (back in the day) when listening to people being interviewed on TV.
Edit: saw this above from Belafon as “uh” - maybe “um” is Australian English?
There is a radio guy on local ESPN sports radio I sometimes listen to when I am in my kitchen. He used to be on a local TV station as a sports reporter.
He does the “um” thing all the damn time and it drives me crazy.
I thought radio and TV people were professionals and had learned not to do speech fillers like that.
He has a good show, good guests and co-host, etc. so I like to listen but the ums are just too much. I find myself doing an um right before he does, because you just know when they are coming.
