I’m not sure that is exactly the case. Mitch wants power for his own benefit, he may have influence from foreign entities, but they are not literally pulling his strings or ordering him to do this or that. He’s been like this for the five decades he’s been in power.

Most of his behavior during the shitdown actually sounds more and more like he was doing the same escalation of commitment that May and the Tories are engaging in. They can’t lose, even when they clearly lost.

I mean, I guess it might be worth it for Mitch to get his dignity shredded in slow-motion just so he can get as many Federalist Society members as possible appointed to the judiciary. But that’s a level of masochism I can’t comprehend.

The Russians put millions into GOP campaigns. Mitch successfully engineered the removal of sanctions on that Russian oligarch a couple weeks ago. The RNC was hacked by the Russians. And Mitch refused to cooperate with Obama in 2016 on the Russian interference with our election.

And given his racism, it would be his crowning glory to get the Federalist Society judges. He doesn’t care about dignity; he cares about accomplishments. How is it masochism to achieve your goals?
