The largest school district in the state (Omaha Public Schools) held a virtual town hall to discuss its plan with parents for reopening schools.

The plan is to have students with names A-K attend two days a week, and L-Z the other two, with the groups alternating Wednesdays.

Students would be required to wear masks on school buses and sanitise hands on entering the school.

Two high schools have too many students, so they will just go with the usual schedule (everybody goes every day).

They hope coronavirus will slow its spread so the schools can all return to five days a week.

They also told parents they would have to live with Covid-19 outbreaks in the schools, because “we’re all in this together.”

I’m really happy for the parents of my school district that we voted out the Republicans from our school board. They won’t have to sacrifice their children on the altar of conservatism.

Wishful thinking isn’t a strategy. It’s a recipe for disaster and a body count among the students and faculty.
