The right wing obsession with pedophilia and other sex crime has always been obvious projection. You don’t habitually focus that kind of attention, without evidence or proof in most cases, for any other reason. It has been coming out for years at lower levels like local churches, but it is now becoming obvious at the national level.

I think there is a rational explanation for this. These kinds of offenses are intimately intertwined with malfunctioning masculinity, especially frustrated dominance. The Republican Party has branded itself as the party of “alpha males” and anti-feminist resistance, and therefore of men who fear strong women. It is going to attract the frustrated, the insecure, the inadequate, and the mis-wired by feeding them a ready made scapegoat for their very personal shortcomings.
