I’m uneasy (but not necessarily afraid) around things that you can’t read the emotions of—they call it something “valley”, can’t remember right now—clowns, masks of any kind, robots, etc.

And now that I think about it, one of the reasons the antagonist of the 1978 film Halloween is so genuinely effective is because of the mask - which itself was actually just a Captain Kirk mask with the eyes cut out a little bigger and painted a whitish color.

You can’t read a single shred of emotion into it. And the character doesn’t talk. That makes him even more effective as a villain; he’s simply a presence.
