re: #193 Jay C

Well, here’s some unfortunate news: turns out that while widespread concerns over the accuracy of mail-in voting are probably enormously over-hyped: the system is - like most human-designed-and-operated things - prone to errors: absentee-ballot voters in Brooklyn have been “deluged” with erroneous ballots. (NYT)

The problems seem, basically, to be:
1) the addresses: many voters have been getting ballots addressed to the wrong person. (wrong-voter ballots are immediately invalidated)
2) the source of the problem has been traced to the vendor - a printing plant in Rochester (supposed a regular contractor, “no comment”: on the errors this time round)
3) the Brooklyn Board Of Elections has been so swamped with questions/complaints that they seem to have been paralyzed.
4) time is VERY short to get these issues corrected.

I had a momentary panic when I recall already mailing off Mrs. Jay’s ballot last week, but I do recall that her name was correct on all the correspondence, so I feel better. For now.

Seems like a mighty convenient “error” to me.
