Regarding climate change, I feel like I’ve given up trying to convince the crowds. I feel like few people want to invest the time to understand what is really going on. Those of us with a physical science background have a head start, and because climatology is both intricately connected political concerns as well as fundamentally being inter-disciplinary (depending upon knowledge and skills from nearly all the physical science specialties as well as some of biology) it takes effort to understand the topics involve.

The subject of the scientific paper in that MSNBC piece fundamentally depends upon the reader knowing the difference between causality and correlation, and understanding the multi-parameter nature of the “cause” of global surface temperature changes.

Some of my local stores have eliminated self-checkout, due in part no doubt to theft but also that it took too much manpower to staff the “self” checkout. I think the answer someone floated to me was that the self-checkout wasn’t working well.

And you know why? Because it’s too difficult for at least half the population to operate. That may be difficult for us, a group of self selected nerds on a blog to accept, but there are many Americans who are intimidated by a computer screen.

How am I (or anyone) going to explain climatology to a person who doesn’t have the self-confidence to operate a number pad on a touch screen?

That might sound elitist of me (and maybe it is), but that is the “problem” in a nutshell.

Believe it or not, the self-check out is difficult for me to work. And I’ve most recently worked as a cashier!!!

Maybe that is why, I’m used to a non-consumer friendly system.
