Tensing attorney: Murder charge ‘absolutely unwarranted’

The attorney for the University of Cincinnati police officer who fatally shot Samuel DuBose in a traffic stop said charging his client with murder is “absolutely unwarranted.”

“Murder is the purposeful killing of another,” said Stuart Mathews. “There wasn’t any purpose to kill this fella.”

Mathews said a second video - not publicly shared - shows Tensing on the ground. Mathews, drawing on conversations with his client and video he’s seen, said Tensing was knocked to the ground, dragged and “feared for his life.”

Tensing’s body cam video, reviewed by The Enquirer, does not show that.
