I know far too many people who complain about it:

1) Compared to just about every other Western country, we barely get any time off. Yet, I’ve actually had people complain to me that we shouldn’t get the day off because it’s too close to New Year’s.

2) More distressingly, I have people are irritated that it’s dedicated to MLK. If it were a white civil rights leader, you wouldn’t hear one fucking peep about getting this day off.

Three guesses as to the skin color of the people making these complaints.

I live in a state that only recently in its history abandoned dubbing such “Lee-Jackson-King Day” out of “heritage.” And that still remains a sore spot with a lot of my fellow white Virginians who think that it somehow detracts from said “heritage” that we do not celebrate two white traitors annually.
