The charge that the impeachment inquiry is being run in a non-transparent manner would have more weight if the people making that charge also criticized the WH for not handing over documents, refusing to allow witnesses to testify, and, basically, defying congressional oversight

it’s been pointed out time and again that there are steps in the process (and it is due process. theres even an opportunity to confront your accuser - later)

senate holds trial etc
this is the investigation stage but actually only a preliminary part - to determine if the allegations ‘have a basis in reality’
LA Times makes a good point about ‘public’
The purpose of the secret sessions is at least twofold: to try to prevent witnesses in the first phase from coordinating their testimony, and to have a record of sworn testimony that can be used to prevent witnesses from changing their stories when the hearings go public
would the R’s really want to air this unvarnished, unscripted phase?
